BYD Officially Confirms Humanoid Robot 'Xiao Di' to Debut in August
BYD has officially confirmed that its self-developed humanoid robot, codenamed 'Xiao Di', will make its first public appearance in early August 2026 at the 'Di Space' brand experience center in Zhengzhou. Standing 161cm tall with 31 DOF, the robot supports 6 dialects and 6 foreign languages, and is designed for dealership store reception and vehicle demonstration tasks.

On July 28, 2026, BYD officially confirmed to media that its humanoid robot product will debut in August at the 'Di Space' brand experience center in Zhengzhou. The announcement followed a teaser poster published on July 25 by the 'BYD Di Space Zhengzhou' WeChat account, which featured a robot silhouette with the text: 'Early August, a new friend wants to meet you.'
The robot, codenamed 'Xiao Di', stands 161cm tall and weighs 58.5kg, with 31 degrees of freedom across its body — including 7 in each hand, 6 in each leg, 3 in the waist, and 2 in the neck. Its dexterous hand achieves ±1mm repeat positioning precision and can perform dozens of standardized actions including grasping, placing, pressing, pulling, and assembly.
Xiao Di's interaction capabilities are particularly notable: it supports real-time translation between 6 Chinese dialects and 6 foreign languages, with response times under 1.5 seconds. The robot integrates face recognition, lip-reading, and gesture recognition, and is equipped with a 360° omnidirectional perception system that can accurately identify living objects and transparent surfaces like glass.
BYD Executive VP Li Ke stated that the company plans to deploy 2-3 robots at each dealership store for customer reception, vehicle introductions, and feature demonstrations. He estimated that such sales-assistant robots could achieve commercial maturity within 1-2 years. BYD has also outlined a three-phase roadmap: 2026 for factory deployment, mid-term for commercial store use, and long-term for household applications.
The strategic significance lies in BYD's technology synergy: the company's EV motors, batteries, electronic controls, and autonomous driving AI are directly transferable to robotics, with over 80% of core components self-developed. Combined with its massive manufacturing infrastructure — the world's largest NEV producer — BYD can test robots in its own factories first, creating a closed-loop 'self-develop, self-deploy, self-iterate' model.
